In 2004, the University of Alabama Libraries and School of Library and Information Studies received a federal grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services to educate academic librarians for the 21st century. Fellows, in addition to attending a colloquium series and various workshops, worked on special projects that they developed through mentoring relationships. Several Fellows share their experiences in these relationships and the projects, which tackled crucial issues as metadata, the role of the scholarly monograph in journal literature, and Google Book Search, as well as the future they see for academic librarianship.
